Open-Ended Straight Draw
A straight draw with eight outs — a card on either end completes it.
An open-ended straight draw (OESD) has four cards in a row and completes with a card on either end. With 9-8 on a 7-6-2 board, any 5 or any 10 makes your straight — eight outs, roughly 17% to hit on the next card and about a third of the time by the river.
An open-ender is a strong semi-bluffing hand: you have real equity when called and fold equity when you bet. In live games it plays well as a bet-and-barrel hand on dynamic boards, and as a profitable call when the price and implied odds are right.
