3-Bet
The third bet in a preflop sequence — a re-raise of the original open-raise.
A 3-bet is a re-raise before the flop. The blinds count as the first bet, the initial open-raise is the second, so re-raising that open is the third bet, hence "3-bet."
You 3-bet for value with strong hands that want to build a pot, and sometimes as a bluff to fold out weaker hands and take initiative. Against players who call 3-bets far too wide with dominated hands, you widen your value 3-bets and cut the bluffs, since they rarely fold anyway.
