A straight draw that needs one specific rank in the middle to complete — only four outs.
A gutshot, or inside straight draw, needs one specific card in the middle of your straight to complete. With 6-5 on a K-8-4 board you need a 7 — just four cards in the deck, giving you roughly 8-9% to hit on the next card.
Because a gutshot has so little equity on its own, it profits most as a semi-bluff — betting to fold out better hands while keeping the backup of hitting — or when your implied odds are high against players who pay off the completed straight. Against a calling station, lean on the value it makes when it hits rather than trying to bluff them off a pair.
